作曲過程解説 / Commentary on the process of composing Mitsuko Ito's "Psalm142" (When he
was in a cave) ■

２０１９年１２月、あるブラジル人の方から伊藤光湖作曲「詩篇１４２（彼が洞窟にいた時に）」について以下のような問い合わせをいただきました；
In December 2019, I received the following inquiry from a Brazilian lady about Mitsuko Ito's "Psalm 142 (When he was in the cave)";

"Would you mind in telling me a little bit about your history with this composition? I really think that you were directly inspired by Johann Sebastian Bach to compose this masterpiece."
（日本語訳：「この曲を作曲した経緯について、少し教えていただけますか？
あなたはヨハン・セバスチャン・バッハから直接インスピレーションを受けてこの
傑作を作曲したのではないかと思うのです。」）

それに対して以下のような返信を致しました；
I responded to it as follows;

" ”Psalm 142” might have been my very first composition for violin.
(I had written some worship songs before.)
I was in Paris when I wrote the Psalm 142, right after I ministered
in a church in London, invited to perform there.

As long as I remember, I wrote the melody first.
Then I wondered what to do with the accompaniment.
As a result, I wrote an accompaniment part with reference to
Bach’s sonata.
(At that time, I didn't think that I would be able to put piano accompaniment as I don't play the piano.)

日本語訳：『「詩篇 142 篇」は、私の最初のヴァイオリンのための作品だったかもしれません。（それ以前にいくつかの讃美歌を書いたことはありました。）　詩篇 142 篇を書いたのはロンドンの教会で演奏するよう招待された直後で、その当時私はパリにおりました。

覚えている限りでは、最初にメロディーを書きました。それからさて伴奏をどうするかということを考えました。その結果、バッハのソナタを参考に伴奏パートを書きました。（私はピアノを弾かないので、当時ピアノ伴奏がつけられるとは思っていなかったのです。）

□ Psalm142 "When he was in a cave" / 詩篇１４２ ”彼が洞窟にいたときに”

Psalm 142 is a prayer of David, later King of Israel, when he fled into a cave from king Saul who wanted to take his life. It is an unaccompanied piece with simple structure consisting of two themes, using double stops throughout. In the cold dark cave, David finds light and hope through prayer. (April, 1999)

「彼が洞窟にいたときに」というサブタイトルを持つこの曲は、後のイスラエル王ダビデがサウル王に命を狙われて洞窟に身を隠していた時の祈りを音にしたものである。無伴奏のため重音を駆使しているが、２つのテーマから成る単純な構成である。暗く冷たい洞窟の中でダビデは祈りによって希望の光を見出す。（１９９９年４月
